Thank you for visiting my website. Here, I hope to give you a sense of who I am and what I do. I am very straightforward and "no nonsense" when it comes to advising my clients. Thankfully, many of them have appreciated my style (and substance) and have referred their friends and loved ones consistently. Indeed, "word of mouth" has sustained my practice over the years.
I have been an attorney for over 2 decades, spanning 2 states and working in a variety of legal areas. Born and raised in Los Angeles, I am the son of immigrant parents who came to the U.S. from South Korea. From early on, as the only child of a single immigrant mother who understood little English, I had to assist my mother with a countless array of tasks and problems on a near-daily basis. Such things would range from the mundane, such as interpreting mail and helping to fill out forms; to the complex and stressful, such as translating for her at-- surprise-- an attorney's office. Thus, from an early age, I gained an appreciation for the difficult and frustrating maze that the legal system presents not only to U.S.-born Americans, but even more so, to immigrants and aspiring immigrants from all over.
I have practiced in a variety of areas and in both California and Washington states. Starting in Washington, from 1999 to 2001, I practiced in business litigation, personal injury, and criminal defense. Then, in 2002, I returned permanently to my hometown and practiced exclusively in immigration law, particularly in removal defense, for which I appeared in court nearly every day. I have represented hundreds of undocumented individuals before Immigration Courts across the country, representing both detained and non-detained clients. I have handled family and business-based immigration cases, as well as non-immigrant visa matters, including DACA, U Visas and VAWA petitions.
In 2019, while maintaining a full-time law practice, I earned my California bar license. Licensed in both California and Washington, I am authorized to practice in all areas of law in both states.
My Juris Doctor law degree is from Seattle University School of Law, and my Bachelor of Arts degree is from the University of California, Los Angeles, where I majored in East Asian Studies. I am a proud product of the L.A.U.S.D., having attended 6 different schools before graduating (shout-out to John Burroughs Jr. High and Fairfax High!). In my free time, I enjoy doing nothing and everything with my family... and grilling on the BBQ.
